A buried earnings call comment from Rockstar parent Take-Two confirmed GTA Online 3 is in development as part of the GTA 6 launch ecosystem. The new Online product launches alongside or within months of GTA 6 main game, replacing the GTA Online (V) live service that has now run for over 12 years.

Rockstar is not letting GTA Online (V) end. The original product will continue running on the prior platforms while GTA 6 + Online 3 takes the next-gen audience. That maximizes the franchise revenue ceiling and limits the discontinuity risk that killed Red Dead Online retention.
